Velabahleke was established for servicing Umkhumbane, a famous Black Shack-settlement (Cato manor), on the outskirts of the city of Durban. However, due to the notorious Group Areas Act of 1950, the settlement was demolished and the school was then moved to Umlazi in 1964 where it is presently built. The school is almost surrounded by shacks from which it draws its learner population.
Where Every Child Matters.
Welcome to Velabahleke, where every child matters. We are about transforming lives. Velabahleke is also about addressing the imbalances of the past which were caused by the apartheid albatross.
The school offers a diverse curriculum and prides itself with the dedicated educators who do not only offer quality education to our learners, but also go beyond their call of duty with extra-curricular activities which seeks to instil leadership skills, values, and morals to our learners.
